This section aims at providing a database of the artists who have been active in this area in the last two centuries. The items collected so far are mostly by the painter Palmiro Vezzoni
, whose atelier was partially re-created in this hall dedicated to sacred art.
Born in Rivarolo del Re in 1908, Palmiro Vezzoni studied in Milan at the Brera Academy, with his teachers Ambrogio Alciati, Giuseppe Palanti and Aldo Carpi. He also attended the art courses at the Castello Sforzesco School (Sforza Castle).
After the Second World War he began to intensively work as a decorator and restorer in the local churches, such as the churches of Quattrocase, Cizzolo, Ardole San Marino and Casaletto.
Of these great undertakings, we have nowadays some full-scale cartoons for the frescoes, decoration plans made with water-colours and several sketches of single decoration details. Other than sacred paintings, Vezzoni also painted genre and still life, especially for decorating private houses. The late artist Palmiro Vezzoni was deeply religious and a friend of don Mazzolari’s. His real value is now fully acknowledged in the Diotti Museum, that received a donation by the artist’s daughters Maria and Luisa consisting also of the atelier’s working tools.
