BETWEEN THE 20TH CENTURY AND THE CHIARISMO GENRE
The 20es and 30es
This room presents a few works exhibited in 1931 at the Art Exhibition taking place in Casalmaggiore and later purchased by the Town Hall of Casalmaggiore. This and other exhibitions aimed at promoting culture during the fascist years and were organized by a group of university students who invited painters from the nearby provinces to participate. Other than artists from Casalmaggiore, such as Goliardo Padova, Mario Beltrami and Aldo Mario Aroldi (who called themselves “The 20th century threesome”) and Giuseppe Giacomo Gardani, we find also Biazzi, Nodari Pesenti, Sifola and Tegon. Some works by Beltrami and Padova show their later connection to the Milan Chiarismo genre. They were important painters in the Lombardy exhibitions taking place in the 30es; Padova was greatly influenced by the Current movement.
