Il Museo Diotti Racconta

2011

Gianluca Ferrari  (Casalmaggiore, 1976)

These four "snapshots" are part of a series made by Gianluca Ferrari for the Diotti Museum in 2011 in the context of the exhibition "Perpetuum mobile". We can talk about crypto-self-portrait, as we are in front of undefined, elusive figures.

The artist's identifications are placed in details that emerge in different ways and spaces within the work: the face is repeated in different poses and emerges from the space of the work, in motion, in continuous becoming. Each snapshot allows and at the same time requires a continuous and repeated vision: the process of creation underlines Ferrari's will to build a visual and mental connection with the viewer who enters as an active part of the creative process.

The self-portrait, as the artist himself said, "is the gesture of someone who decides to escape the randomness and unpredictability of life, expressing the natural determination to assert his own existence".
